MTN USSD Bank Disconnection: Nigerian Banks Disconnect MTN USSD Service Code See Reason

Commercial banks have disconnected MTN customers from banking channels including the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data and banking apps.

The implication is that millions of customers on the MTN network are unable to buy recharge cards or internet data via the USSD channel.

On Friday, the telco sent a message to its over 77 million subscribers about the situation.

MTN customers complained on Friday, April 2, 2021, about being unable to recharge their MTN lines using USSD and other banking channels like the bank apps.

Customers were also unable to do banking transactions on MTN lines through USSD.

According to a source, this was not the doing of MTN but the banks who had refused to give any formal communication prior to the disconnection.

The source disclosed that MTN had reduced the banks’ commission from an average of 3.5 percent to 2.5 percent which predicated the actions of the bank.

According to the source, the reduction is standard because the volumes compensate for the reduction, adding that the contract with convenience channel partners and aggregators through which they were indirectly connected to the banks allowed this.

So if you have been trying, kindly stop using bank ussd code to perform recharge or data purchase on your mtn sims, as Bank discontinues its ussd services with MTN Nigeria, meaning your transactions wouldn’t go through.
